Summary

The Rip Off, originally titles 'Geez It's Hot', is already an established festival winner. A very human, albeit savage story of the plight of Puerto Ricans in New York.

O'Hara - a plain clothes police office, about 50. He is slow speaking, callous and utterly ruthless. His programme for life is sex, booze and bribes.

Ricky - a young Puerto Rican boy of around 22. he is wearing the typical uniform of his age, a bright shirt and jeans. Underlying his tremendous fight for survival he has an undying pride and a need to prove himself to his two sisters.

Maria - his elder sister, she is about 28. Fiery and emotional she is the kingpin of the family. Her only ambition being to hold them together, no matter the cost to herself.

Connie - the younger sister, about 19 or 20, she is treated as being very much younger probably due to her illness. She is a pale version of Maria. We see the occasional spark of the fighting spirit but this is dimmed by the fact she is already dying of TB.
