New York, New Year's Eve 1999 – the dawn of a new millennium - and Jennifer West's intimate dinner party for close friends and family begins to fall apart upon the discovery that her husband has been having an affair. As the hosts confront their unravelling marriage, new resolutions, past mistakes, and an uncertain future merge into an explosive and life-altering evening.
When Midnight Strikes gives a remarkably accurate sense of the brittle gaiety of a New Year party, with all the tensions so often seething beneath the surface.
JENNIFER WEST - 30s, sophisticated hostess, always charming and generous to her guests, no matter what chaos may be wreaking havoc underneath.
CHRISTOPHER WEST - 30s, personable, handsome, everything a perfect host should be; He is everyone's best friend, and all around good guy, but don't look too close or you might see the cracks.
JOSEPHINA - Late 20s, sarcastic, self-effacing, and a very hard worker; a hopeful actress who is losing more and more hope as each hour passes.
ZOE - 40-50, Bohemian, ex-model who has lived a long, hard, but invigorating life; marches to the beat of her own bongo drum.
GREG WEST - Mid 20s, adorable, fun loving and completely irresponsible; He's one guy who loves to have a good time, but his shtick is getting old.
NICOLE - 30s, sexy, confident, brassy and outspoken, this siren uses her good looks and sex appeal to make her feel more like a human being. Unfortunately, the one man who really makes her feelgood about herself is already taken.
EDWARD - 40-50s, socially awkward, and rich as Midas, this shy computer "brainiac" is stepping out of his comfort zone, all in the hopes of making a connection.
RACHEL - 20s, kind, warm-hearted and loyal as hell to those she loves;having recently lost a great deal of weight, she carries herself with a new confidence, is living life to the fullest, and can't wait to seek revenge on those who have done her wrong.
BRADLEY - 30-40s, at first comes across as your typical flamboyant life of the party, vivacious, energetic and full of life; however, when pressed to defend someone he loves, he reveals the strength and depth that is hidden beneath his bubbly veneer.
TWYLA - 20s, cute, impressionable and desperate to fill out her directionless life as successfully as her older sister, Jennifer, has done.
ALEX - 30s, Good looking and quiet, this mysterious stranger reels them in by saying very little, and leaving most of his personality to their own imagination. He always offers a comforting smile, but has a sense of sadness about him.
MURIAL - 40-50, the next door neighbor, brisk, short-tempered and very angry at the cards fate has dealt her. Life has not been kind, so she is unkind in return, unless of course, she can let her guard down long enough to find the love she is so desperately aching for.
