Summary

SIX: TEEN EDITION is a full-length adaptation of Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss’ international phenomenon SIX, modified for performance by teen actors for family audiences. Please note the following restrictions:

  • Amateur primary, secondary school and youth group productions in the UK and Eire only with performers aged 19 and under.
  • Recommended for actors aged 13-19 years old.
  • All performance venues are subject to approval.
  • No replica productions (do not replicate costumes, scenery, choreography or staging from the original production).

Divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived. From Tudor Queens to Pop Icons, the SIX wives of Henry VIII take the mic to remix five hundred years of historical heartbreak into a Euphoric Celebration of 21st-century girl power! This new original musical is the global sensation that everyone is losing their head over.

The New York Times says SIX is “pure entertainment!” and the Evening Standard hails SIX as “the most uplifting new British musical I have ever had the privilege to watch.”

At its heart, SIX is about celebrating the talent and individuality of the women and non-binary people onstage. The Queens should therefore be played by cis women, trans women, trans people and people who exist beyond the gender binary in any capacity, who feel on a personal level that this is their story to tell. Cast can be expanded to include backup singers and dancers of all gender identities.

History
SIX made its world premiere at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2017, presented by Cambridge University Musical Theatre Society. After a successful UK tour, the show opened on August 30, 2018 for a six-week run at the Arts Theatre in the West End. The current West End production, which opened on January 17, 2019, is now playing at the Lyric Theatre. In May 2019, SIX premiered in North America at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater (CST). The Broadway production of SIX, scheduled to open on March 12, 2020, resumed performances at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre on September 17, 2021, officially opening on October 3.
CATHERINE OF ARAGON – A real badass monarch. Commanding, sure of herself, bold. She lights up the room. (Range: Ab3-Eb5)
ANNE BOLEYN – Fun-loving, always up for a laugh. Never takes anything too seriously, but at the same time lives for the drama. Some have described her as a “chaos goblin.” (Range: C4-E5)
JANE SEYMOUR – Kind and sincere. Loves a dad joke, but no one is ever impressed with Jane’s attempts at comedy. (Range: A3-D5)
ANNA OF CLEVES – Savvy, loves her life, won history and no one even knows it. Cleves is here for a good time. (Range: G3-B4)
KATHERINE HOWARD – Super smart with a wicked sense of humor. Remembered as “the promiscuous one” – but she is SO much more than that. (Range: A3-F#5)
CATHERINE PARR – Grounded, thoughtful and warm. Loves the other queens. A champion of female empowerment. (Range: A3-E5)

Ladies in Waiting (Optional):

MAGGIE – Guitar
BESSIE – Bass
JOAN – Keys
MARIA – Drums

Cast can be expanded to include backup singers and dancers of all gender identities.

At its heart, SIX is about celebrating the talent and individuality of the women and non-binary people onstage. The Queens should therefore be played by cis women, trans women, trans people and people who exist beyond the gender binary in any capacity, who feel on a personal level that this is their story to tell.

Standard Orchestration:
The Standard Orchestration music package is essentially what is used for professional productions of SIX. This version uses a click track and pre-recorded elements provided as a QLab file. All members of the band wear in-ear monitors/headphones and play along to the click track which is triggered during the performance by the Musical Director. The Standard orchestration requires extensive keyboard and drum programming. MainStage keyboard programming and Roland SPD drum pad programming are available through KeyboardTEK. The band parts are written for the following instrumentation:

1   Keyboard-Conductor – including QLab click-tracks for use with live band
1   Guitar – Electric & Steel String Acoustic
1   Bass – Electric
1   Drums

Please note that the use of click tracks are REQUIRED to use this orchestration in conjunction with a live band. If you do not have the capability to utilize a click track you should either use the performance tracks included with this license or choose the Six: Teen Edition Expanded Orchestration.

Expanded Orchestration:

As an option for licensees who want to use a live band, but don’t wish to use any click track or pre-recorded elements there is an acoustic orchestration available in the form of an Expanded Orchestration. This orchestration retains the core of Keyboard 1-Conductor, Guitar, Bass, and Drums from the Standard Orchestration while adding parts for Keyboard 2, Reed (Flute, Clarinet and Alto Sax), Trumpet, and Trombone. This version requires some keyboard programming for both keyboards, but no drum programming. This option is scored for the following instrumentation:

1   Reed – Flute, Clarinet & Alto Saxophone
1   Trumpet
1   Trombone
1   Keyboard 1-Conductor (rehearsal & performance)
1   Keyboard 2
1   Guitar – Electric & Steel String Acoustic
1   Bass – Electric
1   Drums
