John H. Newmeir

John H. Newmeir, author, actor and producer, was born 9th August 1951 in Bethnal Green, London. He completed drama school with honours from the London Academy of Dramatic Art (LAMDA) and has appeared in a full range of plays from comedy to tragedy, farce to musicals. Among his credits are A Man for all Seasons, The King and I, The Importance of Being Earnest and his own personal favourite Alfie in which he played the title role. Shakespeare has also been largely featured in Newmeir's career where he has enjoyed portraying some of the more celebrated comical characters including Petruchio in The Taming of the Shrew; Bottom in A Midsummer Nights Dream and Falstaff in The Merry Wives of Windsor. He has also secured both Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor awards. John originally started writing when he was 13, submitting a play Smuggler's Joyrideto his English teacher who neither acknowledged nor returned it! It is little wonder it took John over 20 years to write again, but once he did, he found he had a golden touch. Babysitting Calvinwon the National Drama Festivals Association (NDFA) Award for best play of 1998. John continued with this success by obtaining commendations and trophies for much of his handiwork - including Semblance of Madnesswhich has been included in the drama curriculum and performed by students from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art p(RADA). His plays have been performed in Europe and other English speaking countries including America, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Besides plays, his other works include murder mysteries for murder mystery evenings, pantomimes, and a 1950's style musical.John moved to iSwaffham, Norfolk, England with his wife, Ann, but sadly died 15 November 2018
