Robert Lopez

Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx created and wrote all the songs for the hit Broadway musical AVENUE Q, which won the 2004 Tony Award for Best Musical. Before it moved to Broadway, AVENUE Q enjoyed a sold-out run Off-Broadway at the Vineyard Theatre, where it received the season's Lucille Lortel Award for Best Musical. In 2000, Bobby and Jeff won the coveted Ed Kleban Award for Lyrics for KERMIT, PRINCE OF DENMARK, a proposed Muppet Movie based very, very loosely on HAMLET. They wrote and orchestrated two shows for Theatreworks/USA (READING RAINBOW and FERDINAND THE BULL), plus a handful of children's songs for The Disney Channel. They are currently working on an original musical comedy film for Universal Pictures, and a new stage musical based on a particular religion with Matt Stone and Trey parker from SOUTH PARK. The writing team is eagerly anticipating the September 2005 opening of a second company of AVENUE Q in Steve Wynn's new hotel Wynn Las Vegas. Bobby and Jeff both write lyrics and they both write music, together, in the same room, at the same time. They met in 1998 in the BMI Workshop, which they recommend highly to any aspiring musical theater writer. In early 2005, Williamson Music signed a worldwide representation deal with Lopez and Marx. Said the songwriters, “We couldn't be more thrilled that the home of so many legendary musical theater writers is now going to be our home too.”
