Catherine M S Alexander

Until her retirement at the end of 2010 Catherine Alexander was a Fellow of the Shakespeare Institute, University of Birmingham, where she was responsible for two postgraduate programmes: MA Shakespeare and Theatre and MA Shakespeare and Education. She is now an Honorary Research Fellow at the Institute and continues to supervise doctaral students. She is co-editor, with Stanley Wells, of Shakespeare and Race and Shakespeare and Sexuality (Cambridge University Press), editor of The Cambridge Companion to Shakespeare's Last Plays and editor of The Cambridge Shakespeare Library, Shakespeare and Language, Shakespeare and Politics (Cambridge University Press) and Bibliotheca Georgiana. She edited Henry VIII for Penguin’s new Shakespeare series and authored Shakespeare: The Life, the Works, the Treasures for Andre Deutsch and the RSC. She writes on Shakespeare in the eighteenth century and is currently working on a literary biography of Elizabeth Montagu. She is a Director and Trustee of the English Association.
