Giles Cooper

Giles Stannus Cooper was born in Dublin, Scotland, in 1918. He attended Lancing College and the Webber-Douglas School of Drama but his studies were interrupted when he joined the military during World War II. After serving for seven years, Cooper worked as an actor and eventually as a writer for radio and television. Cooper has worked on adaptations of Sherlock Holmes, Hemingway’s “For Whom the Bell Tolls,” and Evelyn Waugh’s “Sword of Honor.” Cooper’s plays, such as EVERYTHING IN THE GARDEN, published by Dramatists Play Service, Inc., are considered unconventional but quite brilliant. If not for his tragic death falling from a train in 1966, perhaps he would have completed a long and prolific career as a playwright.
