Jim Davis was born near Fairmount, Indiana and attended Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. Jim decided he wanted to be a cartoonist at an early age, and put all his efforts into the creation of a comic strip about a fat, lazy, cantankerous cat. The Garfield comic strip was born on June 19, 1978, syndicated in 41U.S. newspapers. Today it isthe most widely syndicated comic strip in the world with 200million readers and a licensing and publishing empire that spans 111 countries around the globe. Garfield entertains in the moving image venue as well, with feature films, television, and mobile apps. Davis oversees all of Garfield's endeavors via his licensing and creative studio, Paws, Inc., located near Muncie, Indiana
