Nelly E. Cuellar-Garcia

Nelly E. Cuellar-Garcia is a 42-year, award-winning veteran theatre director with eight state appearances, 25+ regional advancements, and 30+ district titles in the world of competitive educational theatre known as the Texas UIL One-Act Play Contest. She has won two state 4-A Texas UIL One-Act Play Contests, having won in 2017 with her original play Las Soldaderas, and in 2024, she and her daughter co-directed and won the Texas UIL OAP State 4-A Championship with Ms. Cuellar-Garcia’s original dual-language adaptation of Blood Wedding/Bodas de Sangre. To date, Ms. Cuellar-Garcia has published over 13 plays, which have been produced around the country and overseas. Her original scripts continue to garner attention from both audience members and critics, who have dubbed her work, fresh, creative and highly original.
