Donald Driver
The late Donald Driver had extensive experience in the American theatre and cinema, both as a writer and a director. He is the author of the award-winning hit musical YOUR OWN THING and the popular STATUS QUO VADIS. Mr. Drivers play IN THE SWEET BYE AND BYE premiered at the Studio Arena Theatre in Buffalo, New York, in 1984. His final play, A WALK OUT OF WATER, had its world premiere at Pennsylvania Stage in Allentown, Pennsylvania, in 1985. His last Broadway musical was OH, BROTHER! in the fall season of 1981. He also wrote and directed the screenplay of Desmond Morris book The Naked Ape. In addition, Mr. Driver wrote a three-hour special for PBS Television called G.I. Jive. He directed numerous productions nationwide, including Broadway productions of MARAT/SADE, for which he received a Tony nomination, YOUR OWN THING, STATUS QUO VADIS, and the national tour revival of SOUTH PACIFIC. Also on Broadway, he directed Dustin Hoffman in JIMMY SHINE and Henry Fonda in the all-star revival of OUR TOWN. His credits also include guest directing at important regional theatres, such as the McCarter Theater in Princeton, New Jersey, and the American Shakespeare Festival at Stratford, Connecticut. Besides his Tony nomination, Mr. Driver also received the Vernon Rice Drama Desk Award for Personal Achievement in the Broadway Theatre and the coveted Drama Critics Circle Award for the Best Musical Writer/Director and the Outer Circle Award.
