Kirsten Greenidge

Kirsten Greenidge has had commissions from Magic Theatre, McCarter Theatre and Guthrie Theatre. Her play Sans-Culottes in the Promised Land was produced at the 2004 Humana Festival at the Actors Theatre of Louisville. The play has also been at Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Madison Repertory Theatre’s Fall Festival of the Future, and Playtime Writer’s Retreat at New Dramatists.

Other presentations have been at Playwrights Horizons, and the Hourglass Theatre Group (Rust: An Illustrative Limbo); the Bay Area Playwright’s Festival, Mark Taper Forum New Work Festival, A.S.K. New Work Weekend (The Gibson Girl); the O’Neill (Josephine 65; Yes, Please, and Thank-you); and New Georges (Grip and Devil Must Be Deep). Her work has been commissioned by South Coast Repertory, Huntington Theatre and the Actor’s Theatre of Louisville.

Kirsten has received awards from the Cherry Lane (Rust), ACTF (Feeding Beatrice, 2000; Familiar, 2001) and the University of Iowa (Maibaum Award; IRAM Award). Kirsten has been the writer-in-residence at P. 73 Productions. Excerpts of her play Sans-Culottes in the Promised Land were published in Smith & Kraus Best Women’s Stage Monologues 2004 as well as in Best Stage Scenes 2004. Greenidge is the winner of a 2013 PEN Literary Award, receiving the Pels Award for an American Playwright in Mid-Career. Kirsten earned her M.F.A at the Playwrights Workshop at the University of Iowa. Her acclaimed play Milk Like Sugar is published by Samuel French.
