Stephen Levi
Stephen Levi earned a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) from the Film School of the California Institute of the Arts in directing for theatre, video and cinema and a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) from the Theatre School for Independent Study in acting and playwriting. An alumnus of Los Angeles City College, the HB Studio, HB Playwrights’ Foundation and New Dramatists in New York City, he was a recipient of an Arthur Foundation Grant in Playwriting, Best Play Award from State University of New York, three Humanitas Prize nominations for animation writing, and numerous other awards and honors. He was a member of the Actors’ Studio, West.His published plays are the Broadway-produced Daphne in Cottage D, Angel on My Shoulder, Getting Mama Married, Cherry Soda Water, The Ramplings, Salesgirl, and three ghost-time-travel plays written especially for high school performers: Good Morning Miss Vickers, Merry Christmas Miss Vickers, and Hearts ‘N Kisses ‘N Miss Vickers. He adapted The Vickers Saga to a young adult reading series. He also converted his stage play Goodbye Victor, starring Michael Moriarty, to a television drama for USA-Cable. He was a writer on seven television series, including serving as a staff writer at Walt Disney Television Animation. He wrote feature films for Warner Bros., ABC Palomar Pictures and a number of independent film producers. As an actor, his most recent film appearance was in Eaton’s Water. His favorite stage roles include Saunders in Lend Me a Tenor, G.I. Gurdjieff in the West Coast premiere of the modern Australian classic The Rivers of China, and George in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? He passed away in 2007
