Steph DeFerie

Steph DeFerie grew up on Cape Cod and lives there still. The many terrific hours she spent performing, studying and attending shows at the Harwich Junior Theatre comprise the majority of her theatrical training. Although she also writes for adults, for 12 years she worked with the Chatham Middle School Drama Club because she loves introducing kids to the fun of performing. Her favorite part of writing for young audiences is incorporating audience participation into her work. She has just published her 21st script, and her plays have received countless productions in this country and abroad and won numerous awards.

Her most popular play is I Hate Shakespeare! Two of her works comprised the inaugural summer season of the Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theatre's "W.H.A.T. For Kids" series. In 2020, she won the Aurand Harris Competition with High School Confidential, took third place with The D.I.Y. Fairy Godmother in the East Valley Children's Theatre Aspiring Playwriting Contest, and Sleeping Beauty Stays Awake (A Covid Fairy Tale) was a winner of the Old Miner Children's Playwriting Contest. Her comedy/thriller Red Herrings won the Phoenix Stage Company’s 2014 New Play Contest.

She loves Zooming with groups working on her plays, so please contact her for info and be sure to visit her new website, StephDeFerie.com.
