A DRAMATISTS PLAY SERVICE TITLE
Short Play, Drama / 8w, 4m
Lucille Fletcher
Ronald Adams, an average motorist, sets out to drive from Brooklyn to California, and early on his journey encounters a strange and inexplicable hitch-hiker who appears to precede him at every step of the way.
His efforts to explain, then avoid, and finally destroy the constantly appearing figure along the highway carry him through several episodes and many states until the adventure finally culminates in an amazing and terrifying climax in New Mexico. Hovering between reality and unreality, this ghostly thrill from master of the genre Lucille Fletcher retains all of its eerie power.
The Hitch-Hiker was originally written and produced as a radio play vehicle for Orson Welles in 1941.
