Who knocked Mad Padraic’s beloved cat over on a lonely road on the island of Inshmore – and was it an accident? He’ll want to know when he gets back from a stint of torture and chip-shop bombing in Northern Ireland: he loves his cat more than life itself. Through Martin McDonagh’s characteristic pitch-dark comedy, The Lieutenant of Inishmore explores what can drive a man to madness, even if he was a little predisposed to get there already.
The Lieutenant of Inishmore premiered at the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-upon-Avon, England on 11 April 2001. Directed by Wilson Milam, the production featured Trevor Cooper, Owen Sharpe, David Wilmot and Kerry Condon. The play debuted on Broadway at the Lyceum Theatre, opening on 3 May 2006.

“A play that still instructively shocks.” – The Guardian
”There is a sort of bleak poetry in the total futility of the play's events.” – Time Out
