Nick, a successful barrister and devotee of football and pop trivia, is emotionally estranged from his wife while recklessly embroiled with a young, female client— a small-time drug dealer, who may or may not be more than'she appears. The plot hinges on whether or not Nick will compromise his career and marriage by having an affair. Moffat investigates the emotional hypocrisy of the legal profession, women in a man's world and in particular the childishness of male bonding.
