Summary
Crossing the desert, an unscrupulous merchant and his maltreated coolie run'short of water. The coolie generously offers what water he has but the merchant, mistrusting the coolie, thin's he is about to attack and shoots him. The merchant is tried but is acquitted when it is decided that, in present day society, to murder one's oppressor is the Rule, and to repay cruelty with kindness is the Exception.
