Summary
In October 1988 three grey whales were trapped under the spreading ice-cap of an Arctic winter in Alaska. The story of Pitu, Siku and K'nik aroused international sympathy and support for the rescue operation which brought together the Americans, Russians and Inuits. Legend has it that the whales are trapped in'sedna's hair and only when'she combs it will they be free.
