The Wonderful World of Dissocia

Full-Length Play, Dramatic Comedy  /  3w, 5m

This powerful exploration of dissociative disorder begins with an absurdly comic first act, in which protagonist Lisa Jones finds herself in the magical world of Dissocia. In the second act, a naturalistic drama, Lisa is seen in her actual surroundings – a bleak and colourless medical environment.

Details

Summary
Lisa Jones is on a journey. It’s a colourful and exciting off-kilter trip in search of one lost hour that has tipped the balance of her life. The inhabitants of the wonderful world she finds herself in – Dissocia – are a curious blend of the funny, the friendly and the brutal. As playwright Anthony Neilson puts it, “If you like Alice in Wonderland but there’s not enough sex and violence in it, then Dissocia is the show for you”.
History
After a workshop at LAMDA in 2002, The Wonderful World of Dissocia premiered at Glasgow’s Tron Theatre at the Edinburgh International Festival in 2004. The play toured England in 2007, making its London debut at the Royal Court Theatre in March 2007.
