Summary
Simone, a teenage girl working as a hostelry student, spends her time reading about Joan of Arc. The period is 1940 and the Germans are advancing towards the French town. In a series of dreams or visions she sees herself as Joan leading a Resistance movement against the enemy. When she attempts to turn her visions into a reality, her employers commit her to a mental asylum. However, in the last few lines of the play it appears that she has encouraged others in the town to take action.
