Summary
Charles Schofield has been a widower for twelve months and finds it a happy relief from married life. This is only one fly in the ointment; the daily help. His friend, Harry Thorne, advises him to get a housekeeper but Schofield finds himself out of the frying pan and into the fire, not daring to put a thing out of place in his own home. Schofield doesn't have the courage to sack such an august personage but Thorne has another idea; that Schofield should marry again and leave the sacking to his new wife. The intended bride turns out to be worse than the housekeeper and it is up to Schofield's sister, Lucy Jane, who is more than a match for them both to get the house back in order.
