Being rather fond of the bottle, Adam Pringle, the stationmaster at Dumpherston, Scotland, has never given his wife Maggie sufficient allowance for her needs. The consequence is that all her money comes from her daughter Chrissie, a girl with a practical mind, and who herself is about to be married to David Ballantyne, the romantic young inentor of a new type of bungalow. On the very day of the wedding, Luella, the American wife of Chrissie's brother Robert, leads a revolt of the wives and sweethhearts against their menfolk. Their demand is for a weekly allowance, which is refused by the men for various reasons.
