Summary
Branwell is a play for one man and three women. We see the Bronte family on a windy autmun evening at a time when they are all together, having returned from their various posts as governesses and tutor, before the fame of their books has occurred. The play deals with the problem of Branwell, his rapidly accelerating deterioration, the attitude towards him of the three sisters. His weakness, and the tragic waste of his potentially fine intelligence and creative ability are brought out, against the background of the close-knit family circle and the grim moorland landscape which surrounds the Parsonage. Period 1846.
