Jake is imprisoned in his past. He and his brother, Roger, had each dreamed of what they would do with their live, dreams opposed by their strong-willed, money-obssessed mother. Roger submitted and became a wealthy business man; Jake stood out and is now a peniless painter. Roger even married Martha, a girl Jake loved. One evening Jake tells his present girl, Star, his story - scenes from which are enacted in the room. Encouraged by Star, he breaks the spell of the past, and turns to face their future together.
