Summary
At the Hall of Valhalla lies a graveyard just beyond from which two dead soldiers arise. Bill is blind and Harry, his old war freind in life, comforts him. Jean, Bill's girl, has been killed in a raid, and she too arises from a grave. But she is not the Jean that Bill once knew. She is swaggering, hard and boastful of her conquests among the American troops, and sneers at the simple honesty of the two men. Then Jessie, Harry's girl, who has also been killed, arrives in the same way. She has been a nurse in a children's hospital and is concerned only for the little ones who are missing. Unlike Jean she has kept her faith in things eternal and impels the men to pray with her. As the play closes the booming of guns rises with the shriek of sirens; the characters are huddled in supplication. The terror passes, and the Priest, who opened the play, commends the heroes who have died in a great cause.
