George and Paula Aston are set to celebrate twenty-five years of happily married life with a three-month holiday in Florida, until George breaks the news that the trip must be postponed. Paula is recovering from the disappointment when theri daughter, Penny, arrives having left her husband, Tony, because she feels too dominated by him. Paula, in an effort to coach Penny and teach Tony and George a lesson, plans a jaunt in London, leaving a cryptic note for the husbands to interpret as they will. Arriving home to an empty flat, George is soon confronted by an angry Tony, but they find unexpected solace with the arrival of the Americans, Glenda and Cindy-Lou, with whom they decide to go on the town. In turn, Paula and Penny arrive home to find the flat empty and discover where their husbands have gone. Eventually George and Tony return and all is happily resolved.
