Summary

With the arrival of the twins it is realized that Gerald and Flora will no longer have enough room in their flat to cope with everything, and it is suggested by Flora's mother that the whole family come to live with her at the King's Arms at Streatham. Flora is willing, but Gerald wants to be master of his own house. Things could have been made easy if Gerald's rich Aunt Harriet had come forward with a handsome christening present, but this is not to be hoped for on accountof a recent quarrel. However, Aunt Harriet does arrive at the flat, furious that she has not been asked to the christening, but softens down when proof is forthcoming that the invitation had been mislaid. She will not hear of any of her relatives living in a public house at Streatham, and offers to pay the rent of a reasonable establishment for Gerald and his wife.
