Written in verse, this tale of unrequited love is a highly stylized piece. It tells of Sylvia who is in love with Boybeetle, who loves Butterfly. Although the plot is tragic, Lorca nevertheless injects some humour: the one-legged cockroach, Dona Beetle, is decidedly down to earth, as is the drunken scorpion, Scorpy. With non-naturalistic style it is set firmly apart from the rest of Lorca's work and is an excellent example of avant-garde theatre.
