Summary
In a hospital room in Atlanta, ambitious freshman congressman Newt Gingrich complains about his flight, boasts about his accomplishments, rails against the “liberal national elite” and dreams of his future. He barely seems to notice that his mild-mannered wife, Jackie, lies in her bed, rapidly losing a years-long battle with cancer. This scathing portrait of a pompous, heartless and cruel politician only worsens when Newt presents his dying wife with a proposal… of divorce.
History
Contract with Jackie premiered at the 1996 Humana Festival of New American Plays in March 1996. Directed by Frazier W. Marsh, the production featured Divina Marsh and William McNulty.
