Overview
For years Eustace Crucible, crazed chemistry teacher, has striven to find a formula to enhance his appearance and make him intelligent (er, more intelligent) but courage fails him at the moment of truth and he persuades downtrodden Sylvester Jekyll to drink the potion instead. Sylvester is immediately transformed into Hyde, a super-cool, handsome, laid back youth - in fact the exact opposite of Sylvester. We follow Hyde's experiences at the School Dance, where he even usurps the teenage idol Ricky Fantasy (alias Bernard Clapfish) the band's singer and "narrator" of this story, and against a gang of muggers, whilst Inspector Ticket of Scotland Yard and Mr and Mrs Jekyll search in vain for Sylvester. Between momentary flashbacks to his real self, Hyde learns of people's true feelings for Sylvester and in the end decides to "be himself", giving the top-up dose of potion to Miss Wrenplacket, clueless music teacher in love with Crucible. Interspersed with the main action we see Crucible and some of his laboratory "experiments" as well as teenagers' problems of early love.
