The House on the Cliff

Overview

The eponymous house is a rambling old structure of ancient vintage overlooking the English Channel.

Years ago a yacht heading for the South of France sank in a storm and everyone on board perished. Sometimes at night, they say, you can hear them screaming for help, crying out against the storm.

The house’s occupants include Ellen Clayton, a lovely young heiress who is confined to a wheelchair, Karen Lloyd, her coolly beautiful stepmother and Jenny, the austere housekeeper.

Ellen is looked after by Dr Lane who leaves suddenly to attend a conference overseas. Nurse Pepper arrives, a cheerful, curious person intent on putting things in order. And there’s the substitute doctor, Corey Philips, who believes Ellen can walk again and soon.

It all begins with a sudden, violent murder and ends with a chilling, surprising climax.
