Artist Max never had any success until he met an Italian, Toppa. When he painted her he became a great success. For some years she has been secretly in love with him. Max's younger brother Peter has fallen in love with her and when Max realises this he is jealous and easily seduces Toppa. Max grows tired of her just when she has become pregnant. Peter offers to marry her and take her away - but she prefers to go back to the streets where she started out.
