Andrew Shepherd

Andrew Shepherd put his law degree to good use by training at LAMDA as an actor. His first full-length play, Therapy, was part of Newcastle University’s takeover of Northern Stage’s Guilbenkian Studio in 2000, and his Edinburgh Fringe debut, Whispers in the Wood, transferred to New York (St Mark’s Theater) in 2002. His other work includes The Trial of Sir Henry Irving (Lately Deceased), later reworked as The Knight from Nowhere (Park Theatre) and 20 short pieces for school children originally written for a school in Singapore.

He was the Artistic Director of ACSRandom and is currently Executive Director of Theatre503, the country’s leading venue for early career playwrights. His love of Shakespeare was sparked prior to his first visit to Stratford when his father handed him a copy of the Complete Works and solidified when he played Puck on stage at school. He has directed a number of his works (determined to stage them all if time allows), his wedding reception was at Shakespeare’s Globe and his daughter is named Ophelia Beatrice in honour of two notable performances by his wife.
