A SAMUEL FRENCH, LTD. TITLE
Full-Length Play, Dramatic Comedy / 1w
Julia Grogan
A biting, hilarious dark comedy about the price of the pursuit of fame, seen through the eyes of children’s ballet teacher, and what happens when the dream refuses to die.
Miss June teaches baby ballet in a crumbling village hall, drilling good-toes-naughty-toes into a generation of tiny dancers while her own dreams of greatness quietly rot. But when her final shot at fame vanishes, she doubles down and fights to transform the end-of-term sharing into an all-consuming quest for glory. This is going to be the battle of a lifetime. A surreal, razor-sharp dark comedy about ambition, delusion and what happens when the dream refuses to die.
You’re So Special first premiered in Dublin, Ireland at Bewley’s Cafe Theatre as part of the Dublin Fringe Festival in 2025 before transferring to London, opening at the Soho Theatre Upstairs on 3 September 2026. Directed by Rachel Lemon, the production starred Julia Grogan.

★★★★ “Painfully funny... Grogan is doing brilliant things!” – The Guardian
★★★★ “Unpredictable, surreal and very funny.” – Stage
★★★★ “Deft, theatrical and utterly compelling.” – Theatre Weekly

★★★★ “Quite special!” – West End Best Friend
“Julia Grogan sees the world through an achingly honest and gritty lens and You’re So Special is no exception. The stomach hurts from laughing, and yet somewhere between the chaos and the comedy the play finds a way to leave you quietly questioning your own desire to be perceived, your own fear of living a small life, your own terror of being ordinary.” – Aisle Seat Reviews
“Creating a character as monstrous as June while still making us root for her is a delicate balancing act, but it’s a line that Grogan treads with skill and apparent ease.” – The Reviews Hub
