Alice got their mother’s looks; Abigail got her sense of humor. Alice has a Nobel Prize for Medicine; Abigail likes to get stoned on the sofa. Abigail is a homebody; Alice is preparing to leave the earth forever on a one-way mission to deep space. When the sisters rediscover the joy of being in each other’s orbit, the concept of a goodbye becomes much harder than either of them anticipated. But the countdown has already started in this dramatic comedy by award-winning writer and co-artistic director of Freight Theatre, Alex Rugman.
The Urmetazoan premiered in London at the Hampstead Theatre Downstairs on 18 September 2026. Directed by Anna Ledwich, the production featured Ben Allen, Dorothea Myer-Bennett and Meghan Treadway.
It then received its U.S. premiere in Pittsfield, MA with Barrington Stage Company on 30 September 2026. Directed by Jack Serio, the production featured Francesca Carpanini, Julia Chan, Beatrix Flynn-Powell, Justin Mark and Lyla Randall.
