Summary
This lyrical play was presented by the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1969 in a double bill with Landscape and consists of three monologues by Ellen, Rumsey and Bates. Ellen grew up in the country and Rumsey and Bates, who knew her as a child fell in love with her. Rumsey, ended their relationship, advising her to find younger men. Ellen may have gone away with Bates but, she loved Rumsey more. While Ellen and Bates lived unhappily in town, Rumsey lived in contentment in the country.
