The old Royal Court Theatre has been sold to a supermarket chain. As the workmen wait to start demolishing it, the old actor who ran it for many years comes to bid it goodbye and laments the present state of theatre. He is joined by his old dresser. An ex-actress arrives, and by amazingly lucky coincidence turns out to be the wife of the head of the supermarket chain. She says she will save the theatre but the actor has now realized his day has past and is resigned to retirement.
