It’s time to “run” the mile, but for Fahren, Alyssa, Sonia and Savannah, the mile is something you walk with friends while you contemplate love, mortality, friendship and Hot Fries. Milewalkers revisits all the big and small ways that middle schoolers tackle big life questions.
It’s time to “run” the mile, but for Fahren, Alyssa, Sonia and Savannah, the mile is something you walk with friends while you contemplate love, mortality, friendship and Hot Fries. Milewalkers asks us to return to middle school and revisit all the big and small ways that young adults tackle big life questions.
Milkewalkers is published as part of The Keen Collection: Volume 11.
FAHREN – she/her, 8th grade, Monroe piercing, decisive, brutal. Will absolutely beat you in a fight, will absolutely join any fight you are in. ALYSSA – she/her, 8th grade, perfect eye makeup, loyal, romantic. Will absolutely listen to all your problems, will absolutely tell you all of hers. SONIA – she/her, 8th grade, she’s new here, brand-new, observant, dedicated. Will absolutely help you with your work, but won’t let you copy. Will absolutely lie to a teacher for you. NOTE: this actor should be able to play an older version of SONIA, too. COACH DUARTE – he/him, P.E. Coach, so he’s a P.E. coach, deeply self-serious. Flopped jock energy. SAVANNAH – she/her, 8th grade (should be in 9th), powerful, charming, hungry, older cousin energy, thinking about mortality and illness a lot, raised by her grandma. Will absolutely reply with “that’s crazy” to everything, whether she’s listening to you or not. OSCAR – he/him, 7th grade, gayby, quiet, all the things are wrong, sweet, sentimental, deeply apologetic. Should ideally be the smallest person on stage, and with a tremendous amount of heart. NOTE: this actor should be able to play an older version of OSCAR, too. LUIS – he/him, 8th grade, runs track, rude. A mean, bro-code kind of athlete archetype, fairly antagonistic. Ideally should look like he could run track, but then again, it’s middle school. ERIC – he/him, 8th grade, runs track, trying really hard to sound like he has a deeper voice, is forever nervous that he might not be good enough. Oscar’s cousin, so some relation there. DAVID – he/him, 8th grade, runs track, too tall to know what he’s doing, Alyssa’s crush, Oscar’s crush, too. Not too many words out of him. MAURI – they/them, 7th grade, too young but already a queer elder, so very willfully themselves, loves tarot and is very likely deep in witch-Tok. If middle school had case workers, they would be first in line for the job.
The actors playing SONIA and OSCAR will need to also play older versions of those characters, respectively.
