Scary movies are full of different ways to give you nightmares – but once you figure out the formula, the frightful looks pretty funny. Take a whirlwind tour through the common categories of the creepy, from lines like ”let’s split up!” to tropes like the car that never starts. If you dare to master everything from cobwebs to clowns, you’ll be ready when they all converge in a single hilarious finale scene. You won’t believe how fast the spine-chilling turns side-splitting when you know the secrets of The Hallmarks of Horror.
The Hallmarks of Horror was originally produced at Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato, MN, on September 15, 2017.

Cast size and script cutting:
This play is meant to be fun and relatively fast-paced. The play was originally produced with a cast of twelve actors (six men and six women) but with lots of creative doubling it certainly can be done with fewer actors, just as it can be done with more. Directors should feel free to cut portions of the play as needed to fit into time constraints if that is desired. Those wishing to add to the play should contact the publisher for permission, however simple ad-libbing for comic effect is certainly okay and even encouraged.
A bare stage with a central door.
