Overview

This comedy in three acts, first presented in 1977, captures the humour of Austen’s subtle satire through witty dialogue and colourful characterisations.

Fanny Price, a sensitive and shy girl of modest means, is sent to live with her wealthy aunt and uncle, the Bertrams, at their estate, Mansfield Park. Though most of the family regards Fanny with contempt, her cousin Edmund shows her kindness and compassion. The arrival of the fashionable Crawfords, Mary and Henry, disrupts the family’s life, leading to romantic entanglements and moral dilemmas.
