Summary

Nunsense A-Men! is basically the original Nunsense show with all of the characters being portrayed by male musical comedy performers. Think of it as “Mrs. Doubtfire enters the Convent.” Done totally seriously, this show is, to quote a critic, “no drag.” A whole new layer of comedy surfaces with lines like “The guys in the old neighborhood still can’t believe I became a nun!”

History
First performed in Brazil as Novicas Rebeldes, this version of Nunsense premiered off-Broadway at the 47th Street Theater in 1998. Receiving rave reviews and standing ovations, subsequent productions have boasted such stars as Laugh-In’s Arte Johnson as Mother Superior and Olympic champion Greg Louganis as Sister Robert Anne.
Cast Attributes

SISTER MARY REGINA, MOTHER SUPERIOR (REVEREND MOTHER): Male, 60s
A feisty overweight Sophie Tucker-type who can't resist the spotlight.

SISTER MARY HUBERT, MISTRESS OF NOVICES: Male, mid 50s
The second in command, she is always competing with the Mother Superior.

SISTER ROBERT ANNE: Male, Mid 30s
A streetwise taught character from Brooklyn. A constant source of aggravation for the Mother Superior.

SISTER MARY AMNESIA: Male, Late 30s
This nun lost her memory after a crucifix fell on her head. She is very sweet.

SISTER MARY LEO: Male, Early/Mid 30s
The novice, who has entered the convent with the firm desire to become the first nun ballerina.

NOTE: In the Original New York Production the Mother Superior was named Sister Mary Cardelia. In all subsequent productions the Mother Superior is named Sister Mary Regina, while Sister Mary Cardelia is the nun who modeled for the convent greeting cards.
